Established in 1998, the company was started by John Storey and Bruce Dunnington as a new business incubator and private equity business focussing largely on financial services. It now includes interests in property, gaming and payment systems software as well.

While Cobalt has made a number of investments in the property, pensions, group risk solutions, and leisure markets in South Africa, the team intend to focus on growing their three major investments in finance, gaming and payment system software for the foreseeable future. They will however look at partnering in these spaces and /or complementary investments with a financial service focus.
